Can Foods Be Healthy & Well Balanced As Well As Fun & Yummy At The Same Time?  We Think So!

Growing kids cannot survive on pizza, fries, and hot dogs alone!  And although it is sometimes tempting to give in and give them a quick and easy unhealthy snack, there are quite a few really healthy treats that you can include in their daily diet.  These foods are not only well-balanced and wholesome, but they are also delicious! Here are a couple of our top picks:

Nuts & Seeds

Nuts and seeds are the perfect in-between-meal snack for your kids!  A handful of seeds not only helps to keep growling tummies at bay, but they also are an excellent source of protein, iron, calcium, fiber and unsaturated fatty acids which are vital to youngsters’ development.

Here are a couple of nuts you can try:

  • Peanuts
  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Pistachios
  • Walnuts
  • Hazelnuts
  • Pecans

Try including them in a trail mix with raisins and other dried fruits.

Fruits

It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.

MAHATMA GANDHI

Instead of giving children sweets or biscuits to relieve their sweet tooth why not give them natures very own sweet treats!  Apples, oranges and bananas are really easy when you are on the run and things like watermelon or strawberries are an extra special treat that will satisfy any sugar cravings!  Of course, fruits are also high in potassium, vitamin C as well as calcium so including fruit in your child’s diet really is a win-win!

Spaghetti

Children love pasta and most will happily sit down and eat a whole plate of spaghetti without giving it a second thought.  Combine spaghetti with healthy lean meat and all-natural sauces and you might have a new family favorite! You can also sneak a few veggies into the mix by adding finely cutting red onions, mushrooms, olives and peppers into the sauce.

Fish & Poultry Fingers

Nearly every restaurant on the planet includes either fish or poultry fingers in their menu.  This is no surprise as these delicious treats are always a firm favorite for children.  You can easily make these at home and you can even bake them instead of frying for an even healthier alternative.  Plenty of healthy and tasty recipes are just one Google search away!

Fun Veggies

Fun and vegetables just don’t seem like they should go together but veggies can be enjoyable for children! And if your kids are really opposed to the idea of eating them then why not try starting your very own vegetable garden or small aquaponics system and get your kids involved right from the start!  They will love watching their very own veggies grow and when harvest time comes they can do all the picking.  And you can never go wrong teaching your kids to enjoy fresh, raw veggies straight from the garden!
