The Ice Maiden story is a haunting short story that was written by Hans Christian Andersen in the 1800s. It is one of his longer stories and it is also one of his darker tales that might not be entirely the best choice for kids.
The Ice Maiden story takes place in Switzerland where Rudy lives with his grandfather. As a child, Rudy survives a tragic incident where he loses his mother. As he grows up he becomes a skilled mountain guide and hunter. He falls in love with Babette, the miller’s daughter but their relationship faces many challenges due to differences in class and jealousy.
The story follows Rudy’s journey to prove his love for Babette. Along the way, he meets the mysterious Ice Maiden, a supernatural being who is responsible for his mother’s death.
